About University
Today, SamSMU is one of the largest and most authoritative universities in Russia and one of the best medical universities in our country.
SamSMU includes 8 institutes, more than 15 specialized diagnostic and therapeutic centers, 14 departments and 90 chairs. The teaching staff consists of 622 members, 14 of which are academicians and corresponding member of different academies, 100 professors and PhDs, 386 assistant professors.
Since 1991 Samara State Medical University began the training of general practitioners, pharmacists, trainees and post-graduate research students from Eastern countries, Asia, Africa and Latin America on the base of International Students Department. Training is based on contract system.
Approximately 1000 international students graduated from our University. Our graduates have high level of theoretical and practical professional knowledge. The Diploma of our University is known in over 50 countries.

North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov (NWSMU) was founded on October 12, 2011 as a result of the merger of the two oldest educational medical institutions in Russia – St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I.I. Mechnikov.

A truly significant event occurred in 1938: the first graduation of 109 doctors took place , 79 of whom were sent to work in medical institutions in Udmurtia. In the same year, based on the results of its work, the institute took first place among medical universities of the RSFSR. With the first graduation, the institute opened up the possibility of training scientific personnel through graduate school from among graduates, which expanded the opportunities for the growth of the national workforce of medical scientists.

The Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Izhevsk State Medical Academy” of the Ministry of Health of Russia today relies on the experience of past years, a solid technical and educational base, has a strong teaching staff and offers training of specialists that meets federal state educational standards, the level of education is specialty:

The student population for the 2021-2022 academic year at the Faculty of Medicine is 2,350 students, at the Faculty of Pediatrics – 740 and at the Faculty of Dentistry – 498 students.
31 highly qualified personnel training programs are being implemented – residency programs (obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology and resuscitation, clinical laboratory diagnostics, radiology, pathological anatomy, forensic medicine, pediatric surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, dermatovenerology, infectious diseases, cardiology, physical therapy and sports medicine, neurology, therapy, phthisiology, neurosurgery, oncology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular surgery, traumatology and orthopedics, urology, maxillofacial surgery, healthcare organization and public health, therapeutic dentistry, dental surgery, orthopedic dentistry, pediatric dentistry , orthodontics). Residency training lasts 2 years. In the 2021-2022 academic year, 520 residents are undergoing training.
